Posted by rod@drury.net.nz in Events, TechBiz at 6:08 am on Thursday, 18 October 2007

It’s been a busy week with awards. Almost as great as receiving is giving.

On Tuesday we had the cable car challenge. Fantastic event up and the cable car and some worthy winners. Judging was was a lot of fun.

Uphill, downhill sales pitch

Congratulations EyeMagnet.

Last night was the HiTech Awards finalists announcement. I got to speak for a few minutes on what last years award meant for me. Will be great night on November 3.

And later on last night was the Open Source Awards where I presented the Business category. Fantastic event run by Catalyst IT. Great community and some amazing projects going on the Open Source World.

Don had the best public speaking opening line ever with “It’s not like in front of the mirror is it”.

David Cunliffe was there again, and I again I got to follow him on stage. As I’ve said before he is one of the hardest working MP’s, turns up to all the events and actively builds relationships with the industry. It’s appreciated.

PT and Phill Goff - payday in BrazilLocal Wellington Companies are just firing right now. Fellow L’affare team member Paul Treacy nailed a huge deal with EyeMagnet in Brazil last week.

Great timing with Trade Minister Phil Goff in town. NZ Trade and Enterprise and especially William Wattie in Brazil has worked very hard for EyeMagnet and other companies for a couple of years. Congratulations PT, great to see all that effort on Government Relations paying off.

Great photo too, huge reward after 2 years of pushing hard. Hope it was a flash pen.

Some coverage on Scoop …

Kiwi Companies Achieve Big Results in Brazil

EyeMagnet allows content to be pushed out to multiple screens. The use it for promotions around Telecom retail stores, in bars and at sports events. You can run text competitions and all sorts of things through the platform. The Brazilian deal is about pushing content out to screens on buses using CDMA.

EyeMagnet is all run from central servers so they can service companies and promotions from all over the world and have a team running around the US doing big concerts. It’s a great blur of bunch of technologies productized into a compelling offering.

From the EyeMagnet press release ..

New Zealand company, Eyemagnet, has today secured a deal
in Brazil to supply BusTV – the interactive video advertising display that owns the eyeballs of
commuters on their way to destinations throughout South America.

Under the deal, Eyemagnet will license its technology to Caio Industries who build and supply buses
across South America. In an initial build, Caio will implement BusTV with the new bio-diesel fleet for
advertising and information displays that are managed and controlled over the mobile phone network
in Brazil. Caio run 35,000 buses in Sao Paulo alone.

Eyemagnet have also confirmed connectivity to all of the South American mobile operators to further enhance a commuters experience with interactive mobile messaging .”GPS guided local content are the next steps for our implementation with Caio,” says Nick Ratcliffe , General Manager, Sales and Marketing of Eyemagnet, ”This deal further legitimizes the growing need for a service like this to engage and inform the viewers. Eyemagnet fills this niche elegantly”.

The opportunity to pitch for this business with Caio Industries arose from the original work that Eyemagnet completed with Telecom NZ and the “Telecom T3G bus” for the Wireless Data Forum “Convergence” event in 2005.

The significance of this deal for Eyemagnet also attracted the interest of the New Zealand Trade Minister, Hon. Phil Goff who was present at the signing. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and in particular the Brazilian Trade Commissioner William Wattie have been instrumental in guiding Eyemagnet and it’s Brazilian distributor over the two years it has taken to complete the deal.

The first installations are commencing in October of this year.
