I retired from personal blogging in July 2008.
But you can find me over at http://blog.xero.com.
Just did 4 hours in the car. Once the kids dozed off managed to sneak on National Radio.
In this weeks At The Movies, Simon Morris does a fantastic interview with director Mike Leigh.
Simon talks to influential British director Mike Leigh about his new film Happy Go Lucky, and his unusual working method. He also looks at Rolling Stones documentary Shine a Light, and the film about real life maths wizards who broke the bank at Las Vegas, Twenty One.
I usually enjoy Simon’s reviews but this interview is brilliant. Two very bright people and Mike Leigh gives no quarter but I think likes that Simon asks some intelligent questions. Not out on podcast yet but bookmark it.

Damn! I’ve been writing up a blog post about At the Movies. I worship Simon Morris. He nails it every time and he’s a joy to listen to. Thank god for the podcasts, because otherwise it’s only the rare fluke that I get to hear the actual radio show and usually the kids are yelling in the car while I try to listen intently.
Sorry, there is a hickup with the ATM podcasts at the moment. Expect to see it next week.
Richard (Webmaster, Radio NZ)
Two points.
1. Radio NZ do a fantastic job at getting their content out fast, even covering the needs of Linux folks like myself.
2. Richard, mate, you need to sleep sometimes, but we all appreciate the work you do :-)

Something to try
Portable DVD players that hang on the back of a front sdeat, have earphones and enable kids to watch something you are happy for them to see (keeps my two grandsons (2 & 3 years old) absolutely quiet even on a four hour trip and they LOVE sesame street), or a bluetooth radio connection (as an alternative speaker system) that lets you listen to something SWMBO thinks is a waste of time.
Bon-chance
Thanks Dave,
I did try that once but instead of silence from the back I got a running commentary and the question “why are the cars talking?”
Actually it is pretty funny to do the family trips with 3 little ‘uns in the back. Precious times.
