Things - new must have OSX app

If you’re anything like me you wake up at 3 in the morning and remember something you haven’t done and often have to get up and do it so you don’t forget again.

I’ve been looking for a Getting Things Done (G-T-D) type application that was fun and easy to use.

Still in beta but looking good. The Tag based metaphor seems to work.

I’ve assigned Option-T as a hot key to pop up the Quick Entry pane. This makes it real easy to throw in tasks and sort them out later.

I’m enjoying using it and already feel more in control.  It has some team functionality that I’ll play with next week and an iPhone version coming so expect it to have a service/sync component.

Metabase is XML so good scope to have fun with that as well.

    I’m *really* digging Remember the Milk (http://www.rememberthemilk.com/) at the moment. It is online, but works offline through Google Gears and has a huge array of ways you can interact with it, e.g. twitter, email, instant messenger, quicksilver. It has an API so you can write your own apps, and it is extremely flexible, with unlimited lists, smart lists (essentially saved searches), really flexible recurrence, tags, locations, reminders to any number of services (email, sms, twitter, instant messenger); the list goes on.

    Sorry for being a fanboy, but I really enjoy clever, well-crafted software, and this stuff is exceptional. Highly recommended.

    Rod, there is a more complete solution that handles text and diagrams and is much cheaper than $US49.

    Paper & pen; plus you don’t have to get up.

    Also worth checking out voo2do.com - excellent free service, allows grouping / prioritizing / effort budgeting, with a really slick ajax dashboard. Online only, I think.

    I have been using OmniFocus http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnifocus/ and it has worked really well for me.

    I like a lot of the OmniGroup’s software, which balances features and simplicity nicely. When I saw they were releasing a task management application, based on GTD, I was quite excited. It is still only version 1, but don’t let that put you off. It syncs with iCal and I expect they will bring it to the iPhone in due course.

    It’s worth checking out, if you haven’t already.
