I retired from personal blogging in July 2008.
But you can find me over at http://blog.xero.com.
Telecoms new access network business unit and national field service team (the bit now being run by Mark Ratcliffe) is to be called Chorus.
Great name.
“Chorus will give all service providers equal access to the local network
through its exchanges, and take the lead on significant developments like
access fibre and Telecom’s cabinetisation programme. This programme will
deliver high-speed broadband to New Zealanders.“Chorus also represents the culture we want to build with our customers
and within our organisation,” Mr Ratcliffe said.“We are committed to a collaborative way of doing things and look forward
to working together with the industry, central and local government and
all telecommunications companies to bring better services to all New
Zealanders.”Mark Ratcliffe also commented that while the Chorus name emphasises an
industry perspective, it also has an equally important human tone.“With more than one million on-site visits a year, a personal brand was
needed to identify the Chorus field services team. The brand gives us just
that, and it’s great to be getting on with it,” Mr Ratcliffe said.
Another significant step in NZ telco history.

Wikipedia the chorus effect is the perception of similar sounds from multiple sources as a single, richer sound; signal processors design to simulate the effect.
Sounds positive.
I wrote (http://www.stuff.co.nz/blogs/passthesource/2007/07/24/peer-pressure/) about Telecom’s peering moves a while back and am very pleased to see action matching words. We could have such a different topology over the next year or so, one that will hopefully take NZ *back* to the top of world WRT Internet usage and general savviness.
(apologies, sort of, for the blatant plug)
The name’s not totally original - given that Paul Reynolds has just joined from BT in the UK, this name is apparently reused from the Chorus programme within BT - see http://www.selling2bt.bt.com/Downloads/Supplierevent18.06.07publicnonotes.ppt.
The name works, though. Here’s watching…
From the NZ Herald “Mark Ratcliffe says it’s important the new logo is recognised and trusted.”
Of course those of us who have to deal with Telecom might say changing your logo does nothing. Talk is cheap lets see some action other Chorus is going to be the sound of people baying for his blood.
My recent experience (last Monday) of Telecom’s abilities leaves me cynical, when they had a switch outage at Mayoral Drive exchange and dropped Metro Fiber all over Auckland for three and a half hours.
