Best gadget of 2007
Posted by rod@drury.net.nz in Technolust at 8:25 am on Thursday, 27 December 2007

Over the last couple of days I’ve been exposed to what is clearly the best tech gadget I’ve experienced in 2007.

It was a surprise, my favorite gadget. It had elements of many great designs. For example its simple one  button interface had shades of Apple (now at $200 - woot!).  The controls of this complex device distilled into a single red button with soft glowing light indicating its state of operation.

It has wireless technology, nothing new in itself, but incredibly useful for it’s specific application.

The best feature was it’s noise canceling design. I wondered if the designers had consulted with the team at Phitek as some deep science around sound management is in play. Every time we’ve used it someone comments “I can’t believe it’s so quiet.” It really is like magic.

Like great gadgets this is a tool.  Its satisfaction not just in its use but in enjoying what you can make with this machine of convenience.

Great technology needs to be accessible and at a sale price of $74.90 it is affordable for all.

Go and get one now.

I strongly recommend waiting until after the KitchenWorld conference in mid-January. This price drop is further evidence that an ultra portable “sub-Kettle” will be announced.

Thats awesome. I want one that enables you to hear the TV while its boiling. Our one sounds like a plane landing…

Fits the cabinetisation model too. But, no provision for third party interfaces…

… has the same outputs and ending as many technology arguments

too late - I got the 1.0 version a couple of years back

(and wild land is correct it’s got a proprietary plug in device so doesn’t fit plug ins from other manufacturers)

We have been suffering from the plane landing jug too, so I thought I’d follow Rod’s recommendation ;-). I bought one yesterday at the LV Martin sale. The Russell Hobbs features innovative “Boiltec Whisper Quiet technology”, ie special coating and second layer around the coil by the looks. The only sound is the bubbling water. The kids no longer close the lounger door to listen to the TV, and we can carry out a normal conversation in the kitchen. Our old jug is going up on Trademe.
