PlanHQ in Canada
Posted by rod@drury.net.nz in Exporting, TechBiz at 7:25 pm on Sunday, 28 October 2007

I’m really proud of Tim and the PlanHQ team.

Back in January I posted about getting to the big events. Tim committed to last months Demo conference and made a real splash. While he was there he was active in making things happen. One example of that is this interview which aired on Canadian TV a couple of nights ago.

PlanHQ is such a small investment. A few 100 grand that has funded a team of 7 people to build an awesome bit of software that is getting international attention. We could do hundreds of these from New Zealand. And with a bit more investment do even more significant applications.

I hope others see Tim as an inspiration. PlanHQ is a great example of the weightless economy. Tim has built a great team, is out there doing it and having a lot of fun.

Nice work Tim, and as Rod says it not something we should have any difficulty replicating many times over in this country.

So what is the critical chasm we’ve got to get over (and don’t say it’s slow broadband) or is it a combination of several different problems???

    Anyway - Kudos to PHQ

Tim is indeed a great inspiration. And when you look at the team at PlanHQ well its inspiring to see so many great people coming out of ‘little’ old NZ.

    Good skills Tim and PHQ!

The company also got a nice plug on last Saturday morning’s “Business is Booming” show on TV One, by the way.

Congratulations to Tim and team, well done and good luck for the future.

Rod I agree we should be doing many more of these from New Zealand. I have some string thoughts about that and would welcome a chat on this offline if you manage to find a few spare minutes….

    Again, PlanHQ, good effort !

I met Tim at Beachheads in Silicon Valley and again in New York the other week. He’s doing a great job fronting this idea, and I’m confident he’s going to knock the ball out of the park with this one. Personality and energy are huge factors in “crossing the chasm”, and Tim brings those in spades. Keep it up, guys. I look forward to seeing more of these businesses coming out of New Zealand…

Nice work PlanHQ, but that was unfair. Using a giant to interview Tim…

Yeah I think Tim’s a little shorter than me, but he’s got to be over 175 cm — he’s not at all the midget that make him look like.

I think all the companies on our floor are doing pretty well. PlanHQ are getting attention at the moment. I think SilverStripe have started to boom after they took their product Open Source. And at Innaworks we’re quietly getting our Java and BREW tools into the workflow of many of the world’s major mobile game companies.
