Caved

Continuing the AppleTV excercise I caved today splashing on a Samsung 46″ LCD 1080p tele with 3 HDMI ports.

Managed to mount it above the cavity of the old Loewe CRT.

The AppleTV just plugged in, was already sync’d and the kids have spent the last hour glued to all the photo’s and dancing to the background music.

The pictures are stunning and sound quality is great.

Very, very cool.

I like that media has moved into the lounge. Not the computer.

    If you were the kind of dishonest person who’d download TV off the internet. You’d probably want to install:

    * http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
    * http://www.xtorrentp2p.com/

    Then take a look at

    * http://www.tvrss.net

    But that’s only if you were that kind of person. I know I’m not.

    Rod,

    Is Apple TV that useful? I have a TiVO with a DVD burner right now, I can’t see giving it up for Apple TV.

    I think Apple TV suits those that want an easy, non-technical experience. I just wanted photo’s and music from my laptop available in the lounge - in a ‘wife easy’ experience.

    Would love to get DivX on there but that looks like a hard core hack.

    We have Apple TV and its totally great. My wife, has only started looking at youtube since we’ve had the AppleTV - Heck - she didnt even use a cell phone until I got her a blackberry and suddenly - email - viola - the clincher!!!!

    nly problem is how much more tempting it is to use torrents. Pull em down - push em out to the AppleTV. If I could only get afaster internet connection - like 10meg plus - then its goodbye SKY!!!!

    Lane can you get video’s from Torrents onto the AppleTV? I didn’t think you could?

    Hi Rod - yeah you can - but it involves converting the file. If you have an .avi for instance then I use iSquint (incredibly easy) and if its from a DVD (lets say you want a copy of a DVD you bought on the AppleTV *cough*) then I use mac the ripper then handbrake (then again I think you could use isquint after the mac the ripper stage) hmmm. But yes - then my US itunes account is prety useful as well. By the way - good luck with Xero - far too few NZ tech co’s around for people like myself to invest in!

    P.S. Maybe you should bring a few iPhones back with you - the unlock solutions seem to get better by the day - I’d be a taker!
