I retired from personal blogging in July 2008.
But you can find me over at http://blog.xero.com.

Our very own Hamish was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Who took away knighthoods? The only people who possibly benefit from no more knights is existing knights. Is Sir Bob Jones behind this?
Some background: New Zealand Order of Merit, which notes that Brash plans to bring back knighthoods.
Clearly this is an important election issue. Lets bring back the Sirs.

Sir Rod Drury? Yeah, could work…
Speaking of “Sir’s”, may I draw your attention to this useful blogpost, inspired by the erudite and formidable Kate McLoughlin?

:P
Yes, yes, so it’s McLaughlin…
Dammit, caught out already. Sirs it is. Updated.
At this rate you’ll be receiving a Knight of the Apostrophe.
I’d like to be a Dame, myself. Sir Martha just sounds a little mannish.
Republican that I am, even I have to admit that Sir or Dame just has so much more going for it. It’s like Tan Sri in Malaysia. It’s an honorific that commands respect, not forelock-tugging, when it’s awarded (and limited in numbers)rather than inherited.
Hey
So soon after the apostrophe blog.
Lets bring back the Sirs
It should be “Let’s”
Sorry!
New Zealand took a step towards maturity when it left behind the Sir/Dame honorific. A tiny step; we have a very long way to go.
I suggest that we also need to seriously consider establishing ourselves as an independent republic and a strategy for going forward - not looking back.
