5 Things
Posted by rod@drury.net.nz in Blogging at 6:57 pm on Tuesday, 23 January 2007

I’ve resisted the “5 things you didn’t know about me” thing for a few weeks but it’s a slow news day so here goes…

  1. I was an extra on the 80’s not a smash hit movie Shaker Run starring Leif Garrett (who was never on set when I was on). I remember the food was good. There must have been great tax breaks for films in ‘85.
  2. I was also the middle boxer in the first Mitsubishi Chariot commercial.
  3. I stuttered badly through school and into my early 20’s and was completely scared of the phone. I can’t remember how many times someone would yell down the line at me thinking I was a crank caller but I was just trying to get ‘hello’ out.
  4. I don’t drink much anymore but I was in the Victoria University Beagle Blokes drinking team (I was Beagle #2001 of course) and was told to leave town by the shortest possible route by a Waikato constable one Easter tourney.
  5. The main reason I did Information Systems (as part of an Accounting degree) was because the papers were internally assessed and I could get to the mountain earlier. I worked on Coronet in ‘87. The first time I had been in the snow.

Everyone I know has been tagged 30 times.

I was interested in number4. It seems that you maybe one of the people my friends and I were looking for one Easter when it was rumoured that the Beagles were responsible for destroying a set of rugby goal posts during the same Easter tourney. It was a meeting that thankfully for all concerned did not happen. Isn’t it nice to reminisce about our youth.

I actually knew all five of those things about you plus awhole lot more that can’t be published. That’s spooky.

Re No 5 - I did the same at Otago in 1988. I worked on Cardrona at weekends and picked my papers so I would get Fridays off to ski!

you were a beagle boy?? I nicked your lots mascot at hillcrest pub and expected to get dealt to. it turned into a sort of reverse beagle chase but everyone was too pissed to do any damage

The funniest thing about that tourney was the way the beagle boys got all the shit but it was auckland rowing that nicked the rugby posts and caused a lot of trouble but you lot got blamed cos you were a lot more visible. I still laugh about that. did you ever work out who it was? :)

That was a fun tourney but not as good as the one at vic with the naked drinking races the year (or two) before

$4.99 for Shaker Run on Amazon, what a bargain, ordered it and it’s on the way.

As I’m in on screen for approx 2 seconds my hourly rate on that basis is $8,982. Look for a grey suited security guard. If there was a Directors cut I may have got 3 seconds.

That’s about what you get now isn’t it?
