Ugh - I did a similar trip on the Arahura from Picton to Wellington.
The first sign of toruble was when we drove the car onboard, and the loader told me to put it in gear and put the handbrake on as hard as possible.
We got out into Cook Strait and it was up and down all the way. Waves crashing over the top of us as the bow buried itself, and the screws coming out of the water with the whole boat juddering each time the screws bit back into the sea.
Lots of very seasick people! Fortunately I wasn’t one of them.
This was circa 1993 over Labour weekend when an early storm dumped snow from Tokoroa to Foxton and closed the Desert Road for 2 days.
It’s the Suilven - one of Strait Shipping’s ferries that has since gone by the by (to Fiji, in fact).
I feel sick just watching it.
Looks like fun.
I am thinking there would be a few sick bodies on board?
