White and Nerdy

My Segway i2 arrived this week.

I didn’t really want another Segway but the one I used to use was on the Fixed Asset list at AfterMail. It was great marketing when we got it a couple of years ago.

However after the very successful Segway Polo this year we have a rematch in Silicon valley next June/July so thought I needed to keep my hand in.

The i2 is the second generation model. It uses ‘lean steer’ rather than the left wrist to turn. Not sure how well it will go for Polo. I think it will be harder to ride in competition. It does look a little bit better than the old model but there is a bit of fiddling around to get the control shaft to sit straight. I’m surprised that it actually seems harder to break down for transport.

Still, I haven’t been for a big ride yet. Our temporary office is a bit tight so will break out the i2 after Christmas.

I can tell you from one Aftershocks player’s experience, the i2 is tricky for polo… it tends to steer VERY wide and so requires a very different strategy of play. It’s workable, but takes a lot of getting used to. Personally I’m not wild about it overall and haven’t even attempted polo on it. I’ll stick with the trusty “p”! =)

Look forward to seeing you guys at the next match, I was unfortunately not able to make it for the trip to your back yard.

Thanks Jonathan, thought that might be the case. I thought in Polo play you’re throwing you arms around and that would make the i2 unstable. Also found my knees get caught a bit.
